Dr. Katrina Velle is a cell biologist at UMass AMherst working in the Fritz-Laylin Lab. She does research it a non-pathogenic version of the famous “brain-eating amoeba” and looks at hoy they use their actin to migrate, divide, and osmoregulate. In her PhD work she worked in pathogenic E. coli and looked at how they hijack the actin of their host’s cells.
